I'm currently teaching in Spain and am considering a move to Germany for the next school year.

It seems that most of the threads that I find on ESL in Germany are about Berlin. I'm sure there are also jobs in Frankfurt and Munich as well but I'm not necessarily interested in those cities.

I am interested in the job market in smaller cities in Germany. I'm talking about mid-sized cities like Dresden and Hanover. I've tried to do some research but the little information I have found is outdated by more than 3 years. I'm under the impression that those cities have less competition and are often ignored by prospective teachers. So, there might be an unfulfilled demand for somebody willing to go outside of their comfort zone.

I also can't drive for medical reasons. Having to use public transport to travel across a huge city can be a bit stressful. For that reason, I would rather be in a smaller city.

Opinions from experienced ESL teachers?

I think I'd still give the same advice for smaller cities, which is that it is possible to live and teach in a smaller city, but it's not always easy to earn enough. Bring savings and be there to interview for positions.

As far as traveling, you may or may not have jobs in that specific city and some of your jobs might be in smaller towns around. I did travel outside of one small city I lived in.
