What are your thoughts and impressions of Narodowe Święto Niepodległości? It's quite a different affair from, say, American Independence Day:

American Independence Day: fun, BBQs, fireworks, beer, parades, parties

Polish Independence Day: somber & serious, military processions, marches, vodka toasts, riots

Do you celebrate Polish Independence Day? Why/why not?

Well considering Polish history, it makes sense.
The Americans won their independence.
Poland was just like a piece of furniture that Germany and Russia fought over.
I don't get the riots, though.

Don't forget the Habsburgs Also a factor in the struggles over Poland.. And the Poles themselves were actors in the game too - not just "a piece of furniture".

Check out the "Liberum Veto" and its place in the Polish-Lithuanian Sejm. No wonder the place was partitioned !

Well, at least there's no shortage of patriotism here--even though it may be manifested by uniting around what is hated. Not sure if the patriots burned the rainbow this year or not, though.
