Hi everybody

I will be moving to Spain next summer and I can't decide where to go. I have definitely decided not to go to Madrid or Barcelona. Madrid simply doesn't interest me, I am looking for somewhere a bit quieter, and Barcelona is too expensive.

Right now the options I am considering are Sevilla and A Coruña. I have heard that Sevilla is nice but very touristy. A Coruña looks interesting but I´m not sure how easy it is to find work there.

If anyone has any experience of these cities, please give me your thoughts.

Thank you

I lived in Ferrol (very close to A Coruña) for a year, and it was OK, and later I did a stint in A Coruña for a summer school. But frankly it's a bit of an odd choice. Why there? (I only moved there because a vacancy was advertised - back in those pre-internet days where you'd apply for TEFL jobs from Tuesday's Guardian).

The Cambridge School might still be there, and I'm sure - as with all Spanish cities - there'll be a couple more language schools. It's a decent size if you're not looking for BIG cities. Santiago and Vigo are nicer cities, I'd say, and with more work going, I'm sure.

I had a couple of colleagues who'd moved from Sevilla to Madrid as they found the people too conservative. That would be a negative in my book but it depends what you're into. I've visited Sevilla and it didn't seem that touristy but it was unbearably hot in summer (noticeably hotter than Madrid).

I'd look into Malaga or Valencia.

I like the idea of staying out of Madrid and Barcelona. I would look at Sevilla, Valencia, San Sebastián, Pamplona, Leon, and maybe Bilbao.. Galicia is very wet to be honest.

Will be the same everywhere along the north coast. Bilbao and Donostia (San Sebastian) rain like hell. Dunno about Pamplona and Leon, but probably similar.

I don't think Pamplona is quite so bad, but León can get very cold and rainy in the winter months.
