My wife and I are teachers in China and have been looking for work in Eastern or Central Europe. We are not picky about where we want to live. We would like to get a CELTA and are wondering about which countries are easier to get a job in or have a bigger market than others. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Poland. You can even do the CELTA over there, it's one of the cheapest locations to get certified.

Might be useful to note that the main hiring season for the region (essentially for the continent) is September with a small January bump. It's not significantly different country-to-country.

Would it be wise to begin a TEFL course in Jan. that finished in early or mid February? Would everyone have already grabbed work by then?

Take a course in November, start early Jan, expect first paycheques Feb., if lucky. Remember that this is an employer's market-there are lots of teachers around and the reputable schools aren't under any pressure to hire outside of main season. January is chancy already. Feb is dead.
