There is the English Fellow program for Americans.
I thought pay was 35,000 dollars per year.

The Nottingham university in China pays well.

A fascist, Islamist government should convince you. A government whose agriculture minister tells Malays to boycott Chinese shops should convince you. 1933 Germany, anyone?

That's bad news for Chinese shops then. Well it would be if Malays did actually boycott Chinese shops, but as this would mean heading to Singapore or Thailand every time they needed anything, it shouldn't be a big problem.

I'll bear it in mind, though, if I ever consider taking on a Chinese shop, but until then, I'm not sure how Malaysian potty politics affects the likes of you or I. It's way better in Thailand, of course, where we couldn't even buy a house or land.

In China? Or Malaysia?

I think I've heard that both countries have that program. Not sure the details on either of them though.

Both. In Chengdu and Kuala Lumpur, I think.

Bump. If pay is the primary motivator then there are only a few places in TEFL land, and Malaysia ain't one of them. Get an MA and head to the UAE/Qatar, or maybe China (there are a few, yes!), and possibly HK. If you want more (tertiary) options you'll quite possibly need to exit the TEFL game and get working on another MA or a Ph.D.
