Americans surveyed: misunderstood, misrepresented or ignorant?
1. Quarter of Americans do not know the Earth circles the Sun
2. 6% of Americans could not remember the date of Independence Day.
3. More Americans could identify more members of the Simpsons cartoon family than first amendment rights (Mickey Mouse tragedy!)
4. Oonly 37 per cent of young Americans could find Iraq on a map of the Middle East.
5. Only one in four could locate Israel or Iran.
In 2003, a US Strategic Task Force of Education Abroad report concluded that America’s ignorance of the outside world was so great as to constitute a threat to national security.

Everest is in the UK! Survey reveals Britons' shocking lack of knowledge on their own country
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/travel/article-2114349/Mount-Everest-UK-say-Brits-new-survey.html
1.The survey, carried out by research service OnePoll for tour operator Journeys of Distinction, has found that over 50 per cent of British adults think that Everest - in the Himalayas - is the UK’s tallest mountain.
2.One in five also confesses to ignorance when it comes to identifying exactly which countries make up the United Kingdom.
3.Other errors committed by Britons included five per cent thinking that Stonehenge is a foreign site.
4.In the survey, 20.6 per cent could not list England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland as the four countries comprising the United Kingdom.
5.And more than half of British adults - 58.6 per cent - confessed that they thought Ben Nevis and Snowdon are actually in England, rather than Scotland and Wales respectively. |

Gary Johnson: Why Bother Tackling Climate Change When the Sun Will Eventually Engulf the Earth?
"When you look at the amount of money that we’re looking to spend on global warming, in the trillions, and look at the result, I just argue that the result is completely inconsequential to the money that we would end up spending, and that we could direct those monies in other ways that would be much more beneficial to mankind.
I mean, the long-term view… Should we take the long term view when it comes to global warming? I think that we should. And the long term view is that, in billions of years, the sun is gonna actually grow and encompass the Earth, right? So global warming is in our future."
That’s definitely a long-term view. The sun will indeed eventually engulf the planet… several billion years from now.

We shouldn’t worry about tackling climate change because ...He’ll be dead in a hundred years, anyway. |
