Hi, So I am a 34 yr old American male who holds dual citizenship with Ireland and I am looking into teaching English as a second language in Sevilla, Spain. I hold a bachelors in communications and plan on doing the Celta at Clic IH in Sevilla this Spring. I have no experience in TESOL and this will be a total career change for me so I have a few questions.
.) Is Sevilla a wise choice for someone with no teaching experience?
.) If I am able to gain employment, How much can I expect to make monthly after taxes?
.) I don't speak any Spanish but I am thinking of arriving perhaps a month or two early to take a Spanish language course. Does anyone out there have any experience moving to Southern Spain with out speaking the language? How was this experience for you?
.) I'm curious how difficult it is to sustain oneself on the TESOL wages and especially as a newbie. I currently work for a non profit and take home about $2,000.00 USD a month after taxes. I pay $600.00 USD a month for a one bedroom in Albany, NY. Will the cost of living and my monthly salary differ greatly from my current circumstances? |
