Hello fellow café-goers,
I recently interviewed with a sister-school of the Pacific Language School called the Evergreen School of English (located in Kochi city) and was interested to know if anyone here has information one, the other, or both -- preferably from personal experiences.
Given that I've not been to Japan and only vaguely understand the great cultural differences between it and my home country, I am most interested in people's takes on the PLS/ Evergreen pedagogy.
Thank you all |

I'm afraid I haven't worked for Evergreen but have a couple of friends who have.
EverGreen has two kinds of teachers, conversation school or ALT.
If you'll be an ALT (Assistant Language Teacher) working in public schools for them I hear EverGreen are reasonable to deal with.
If you are an ALT then the individual teachers you assist will heavily influence what kind of teaching/ activities you can do.
Pay over holiday periods is reduced, you would want to ask how much. I thought it was 75% pay but you'll need to check that.
I'm sorry I can't give you any information about working at the Conversation school but you would want to ask about how many lessons you could expect per day, whether preparation time is part of your schedule, whether you have a salary or are paid per class and also about paid leave/sick leave etc.
Not sure if you know anything about Kochi City/ prefecture but be aware it is the country-side, life and people's attitudes can be quite traditional. That said most people are friendly and it's easy to meet people.]
Good Luck ! |
