Al-Nawa interviewed me mid-August for a September start. Everything seemed positive, and then they ignored my e-mails.
I forgot about them and went abroad. Late September I received an e-mail from them entitled 'Urgent'. They wanted me in Oman asap.
I later learned that I was 3rd choice for the job, but the 1st choice had walked out and the 2nd choice had just been fired.
They are what they are: not to be taken seriously. |

Al Nawa are NOT up to the job. They have proven to be incompetent, deceitful and everything else we were worried about. Absolutely shocking job they are doing. It's impossible to believe they've had any experience at all with this type of work. |
Hello Roses,
Your above message is depressing. I interviewed through Al Nawa (with a Ministry representative) for CAS a week ago, and next day received a message saying I had passed the interview, and to complete a form stating my preferences for housing and other allowances. I had also previously indicated I was available for an immediate start, and was asked for my earliest available start date. I sent all required details promptly. One week later, the silence is deafening - nothing! No Offer Letter, not a word.
I'm interested to hear if anyone else has experienced this. |
I was interviewed on a Sunday last August. Was told I would get the result by email at the end of the day. Still waiting.
Lack of basic professionalism and competence. |

Anyone following the threads about CAS in Oman should not be surprised about a lack of professionalism and competence. These are people who lie blatantly, either to cover up the fact that they have no idea what they are talking about or because of the Middle Eastern habit of just telling people what they want to hear regardless of the truth. You will not be treated with any respect by Al Nawa. They will offer no help with the settling in process and you may well find yourself having a rough few weeks as you sort yourself out.
Teachers at the colleges have other challenges such as lack of suitable facilities and technology, students who are not at the level they should be, problematic assessment practices and issues with management. I'm not sure what other colleges do but at my college the 3 month probation is real. People are let go if they don't perform. We've had such bad experiences in the past with teachers who came here thinking they can just slack off and we just don't accept that attitude anymore.
You may be living in a town where you have little to no access to alcohol and no access to everyday food items such as decent bread, red meat, cheese and a million other things you take for granted.
If you apply for a job knowing this then you must be willing to tolerate all that if you are going to come here to teach. There's no point accepting a position here if you can't cope with the way things are. I'm being blunt, I know, but we are expecting to get quite a few new teachers next semester and we really need people who are ready to ignore all the rubbish and just get on with doing the best job they can. |
