Hey everyone!
So I've accepted a job in St Petersburg for September and will be making the move in a few weeks, and having spent hours combing the internet I still have some unanswered questions I'm hoping you can help me with.

1. My school doesn't provide flats, but they will be providing assistance in finding something, which basically involves me telling them roughly what I want, how much and where, them searching and compiling a shortlist, and then guiding me around on arrival to pick one. I know I want a tiny cheap(ish) flat alone and I'm not fussed about being in the centre as long as I'm within comfortable reach of a metro, but I have no idea about the various districts of the city and I can't find much to help online.
So, I'm 25, from Melbourne, Australia, and as you may imagine into all things cultural/intellectual/foodie/bohemian. I'd be inclined to opt for a bohemian/student kinda area I think? But I have no idea where this would be. Please help!
Also, is it standard to have an oven in an apartment or do I need to actively look for that? I lived most recently in southern Spain where working ovens were few and far between, but I can't see myself getting through a Russian winter without regular baking!

2. Exercise. And exercise gear.
I've never been a big one for sports and exercise but in the last couple of years I've taken up yoga to deal with a back injury, and I wanna get back into running. Can I do yoga classes in English in St Petersburg? Preferably ashtanga rather than iyengar but I'll take what I can get.
I also need to buy new running shoes, as I've been travelling for a couple of months and haven't brought any with me. Are they crazy expensive in Russia? Would I be better off buying them in Spain on my way over?

Thanks!

Not sure who is in St Petersburg on this forum at the moment. Perhaps try other avenues. Good luck mate.

Well I've partially answered my own question - if anyone else is interested, these guys just got back to me and confirmed that all their teachers speak English http://yoga-shala.ru/english/

How are you liking St Petersburg. Im hoping to get there and have an interview in a couple of days. Can you give me an idea of pay rates as I'm sure they will ask me my expectations on that.

I had a Skype interview last night. It seemed to go ok but will know more in a couple of days.
Language Link are looking for teachers if you're interested. They have 4 schools in the area.
Why are you choosing St Petersburg

Petersburg is beautiful, and I can take the cold. I think.

What kind of school is language link? Adult business? Kids?

Any further updates on St. P? Quality of life, teaching, social life, food? Surviving on your salary?

How much money does it take to reasonably impress the local women in Peter?

St Petersburg justifiably considers itself pretty sophisticated and its women are by no means desperate for a foreigner who can occasionally afford a decent meal out and a bouquet. Don't expect to impress on a shoestring budget, which is what a newcomer with basic quals will earn.
