Just curious, what doors did DELTA open up?
Was it worth the $6000 - 9000 USD cost? |

Within a year of starting my DELTA, I was moved into the materials development group in my University. That led to a promotion to team leader. I changed unis and countries, soon after got promoted to module leader, then manager. Been EAP manager for 4+ years now in a massive university Language Centre and served as acting Deputy Director a couple times overseeing 150+ staff.
Hard to say what my career would be like now if I hadn't got the DELTA, but I can't imagine I would be here. First because people value the DELTA very highly, but second because I never could have had the kind of conversations I have now without it. I have always instinctively been a good teacher, I think. But now I know how to describe what I do.
Best thing I ever did. |

| It's pretty useful if you want to get into teacher training. I needed it to become a CELTA and DELTA trainer plus got jobs on temporary teacher training projects around the world with British Council. If you want to work for them full time they pay more if you have the DELTA as well. |

Over 150 staff? Wow. Yeah, that is a huge department.
You must work at a school like Kansai Gaidai or Kwansei Gakuen. So you are not regarded as academic faculty, is that right? Do you only hold a CELTA and DELTA, or do you also have a master's and doctorate for that position? |

After being rejected for being an IELTS and Cambridge examiner, maybe havng a CELTA would have meant work.
DELTA looks good if you work in Australia.
Shakey, Kansai Gaidai is replacing teachers with those who work part-time and those who teach academic writing are kept busy. I got rejected by that university earlier this year. |

Thanks. Yeah, CELTA, DELTA are regarded highly in Europe, South America and maybe only in Hong Kong and Singapore in Asia. Japanese, Taiwanese, Korean and Chinese university professors do not know what CELTA and DELTA are.
I thought that maybe he worked at Kansai Gaidai, or Kanda Gaidai. However, I do not recommend anyone work for Kansai Gaidai. Many of these large foreign language and culture universities are bizarre, dystopian work environments. They are not healthy places to work. Kansai Gaidai is an abusive employer. Yes, I think that particular sentence would've scored a 5 for Task achievement. |

So I assumed it could be that I don't have a CELTA.
I am surprised since these jobs are advertised continually. Seems that they are too picky.
I even taught Cambridge Advanced Exams in Poland.
For IELTS I had a Skype interview with the trainer who was in Korea. |

Was it for a full time examiner in China? They're less picky about those jobs due to the sheer numbers of Chinese taking IELTS (I heard a million a month) Elsewhere a CELTA would be the bare minimum. In Korea to do IELTS part time you pretty much need a related MA these days, unless you work for the BC. |

No, in Japan.
My MA is in TESOL. Many Americans are IELTS speaking examiners here.
Maybe it is time to head to China. Lots more opportunity than in Japan. |

China is full time examining only as far as I know. But probably easier to get into. Pretty mind numbing after a while though but decent money. |
