Hey gang, I have a question about starting my teaching experience in china
little info on me, have 2 years ESL teaching experience (china & Colombia), BA, TESOL certified, and am a 27yr Canadian male.
MY QUESTION
what are the pros and cons of simply just coming to Shanghai and looking for work. I have a few friends that can recommend me a recruiter.
or is signing a contract online first better?
I have no mandarin skills, but that doesnt really scare me. Just wondering in which scenario I can hope to get a higher paying contract/ better job/school
Thanks in advance |

It used to be the case that you could come on an L visa (tourist) and have it changed into a Z visa without much hassle, those days are long gone. The advice is to get a job before arrival and come on a Z visa.
I vaguely remember something about Shanghai recently (in the past year) offering a visa on arrival or the ability to convert, but that maybe only for 'top talents'. I also can't find any google results to support this...so I'm definitely one for finding a job before you come. |
