| Extremely negative environment. Teachers are forced to teach minimum of 24 classes. All power is given to Lead Teachers and Sector "specialists". They don't have proper qualifications, certainly have no credentials when it comes to Human Resources, and most have no experience in the UAE, or the Middle East. They treat people horribly, including Emirati staff. Most are Brit's, and most look and act as though they are bipolar. Many alcoholics, women included.If you thought Saudi was bad, join the MOE! This is a real sh@t show! |

I was wondering when someone would post about this.
I know quite a few people currently at the MOE. The more balanced say that some things have improved from last year but managment has definitely deteriorated.
I had a hilarious email from a friend describing what happened in a meeting for Lead teachers yesterday. A new cohort of cluster managers have been brought in. They are already being described as a cluster...well, you can probably guess. Nobody knows quite what they do, including, apparently, themselves. They struggled to justify their existence and have been drafted in to teach in areas that are short staffed. However, because of the way management operates, it is expected that they will not ever make it into a classroom.
New and unqualified teachers are teaching up to 27 hours and the Emiratis who know the system refuse to work more than 18.
Some schools have books, others don't.
And everyone is expected to teach English classes on one Saturday per month (possibly more as the Emiratis are unlikely to how up when rota-ed). |

While the above is no doubt true I would say some of the best teachers and best people I have ever met are currently engaged as teachers in this programe.
The money is good. Some of the kids are rewarding to teach.
But this is not a job for the inexperienced or unprepared.....
Certainly the toughest teaching experience I have ever had.... but I will stay here as long as I can for the money and the lifestyle out here which I quite enjoy.
There are some good people working here....and some awful useless people.

| MoE good money? I thought the salary was pretty poor for the UAE. Moreover, I've seen recent adverts with terrible offers. 21k all in isn't it? |

Oh, so I suppose you're one of the "good" ones then lol. There are MANY experienced, qualified, and prepared teachers and Lt's, who were hired. Many have left, many are in the process of leaving, and not because they are useless. How arrogant of you! Many who've had even the experience of working in Saudi are finding this gig difficult.
As far as the money, 21 k isn't a lot of money when one has to pay housing, car, etc. Especially considering the number of hours teachers are being forced to teach. It does seem however some schools are doing better than others with teachers being on 16 to 18 hours, with respectful and helpful LT's. The majority of schools are a problematic however. Horrific students, Emirati teachers who are on fewer classes and get away with it, a management that enjoys threatening staff with, "either do what you're told and be happy about it or else!" Then there's the Saturday Emsat classes they are forced to participate in! As if teachers are not stressed out enough, they take their Saturday mornings from them? Disgusting at best! |

Yep. Please post the UAE job offers which offer a higher salary.
And bear in my I'm a school teacher with a PGCE and no MA.
It's a good salary until you can prove otherwise. |

I wasn't actually referring to teachers when I said 'awful useless people'.
Shame you couldn't see that.
Oh well.
You seem quite easily triggered.
Maybe you should work on that.
If you're not happy with the salary why are you still here?
Where do you think you will earn more outside of Saudi Arabia?
I think it's great. I want to stay as long as I can... If you feel like you're being exploited/cheated then how can you ever expect to be happy here?

And presumably you work in a girl's school?

There's plenty to complain about with the MOE but I wouldn't side with someone like you who just seems to be naturally skewed to negativity.
I've worked in two of the toughest schools in the area.
Yet I'm still positive and happy to be here and can demonstrate progress with my students AND they appreciate me and like me.
Which is good. I like it here. But I'm tough, resilient and I meditate.
This job is not for everyone......and it's not getting any easier...but I'll ride this wave as long as I can. |

lol....so telling the TRUTH is negative? will you deny then that teachers and Lt's are being treated like sh*t? Because if you can deny that, it seems you've gotten a very good school and are treated well by your superiors. BTW, I'm speaking on behalf of many Lt's especially. Many have left, others are in the process of leaving because the stress isn't worth the 21k. If you're happy with it and are being treated well, enjoy! Don't assume everyone else is though. Rose Colored glasses? |
