Has anyone worked here?
I've searched for reviews on the internet and most of them are negative.

Any feedback would be helpful, thank you Smile

Don't have any 1st hand xp. But it seems like it is a black company. I would avoid it. But it is up to you. Are you in Japan? How badly do you want to come here? If you really want to come here, take the job, and ditch them the first chance you get.

But as it seems, they seem like bottom rung, even for eikaiwa

Hi rxk22,

Thank you for your feedback Smile

I'm currently applying from abroad.
How do I recognise black companies ya?
I don't qualify for the ALT positions as I'm a non-native speaker. Besides eikawas, where can I apply to?

Thank you for your assistance Smile

Unless you can find good reviews of the company I would assume it is a black company. As most companies in Japan are not so good to work for as it is. Add English Edu in, and it gets worse.

Also, as a not native speaker, be prepared to be treated pretty poorly. I worked for Interac years ago, and the Filipino employees made significantly less than other native English speakers.

One local, quite large technical uni recruits graduates from this program:
https://www.smcvt.edu/graduate-programs/academic-programs/teaching-english-to-speakers-of-other-languages.aspx

And they've hired a number of NNS grads to work here. I think it was about two years ago that my uni recruited one of these NNS teachers (chinese?).

Yes, a place called KIT. Large school, lots of teachers. They seem to have found that recruiting St Mike's grads is the path of least resistance.

I can't give a proportion, but do know they've had NNS teachers from all over.

Unfortunately, they're on the five-years-and-you're-out system. But they do offer recent MA-TESOL grads far more than the BA-level ALT/eikaiwa track.

The flip side is that Kanazawa is a pretty nice town, and those teachers that are on the ball can leverage this time into something better. An MA, a few years of experience, and with some hustle maybe a publication or few--this is what any young TESOL person should be aiming for.

Some years ago I applied to their high school and got rejected. Don't know why.
The weather is the worst part, especially winter.
I went to SMC.
