Hi,
I am thinking of looking for work in Hong Kong.
A Certificate of no Criminal Conviction is needed.
Where do I go to do that?
I assume the main police station in Yokohama, since I live in Kanagawa.
A letter would need to be in English.
A Police Clearance Form is different and Hong Kong provides no form. |

We help get these for teachers heading back to the UK (or elsewhere) after a stint in Japan.
First thing you have to establish is if Hong Kong has a reciprocal background check agreement with the Japanese Police. If they do then the Metropolitan Police Department (the one we use) will be able to issue a certificate; if there is no agreement then they won't.
Assuming there is an agreement then you will need to get an institution in HK to write a letter requesting you to get a police check done - unfortunately you can't just ask for a check yourself because you think you'll need one. Doesn't have to be a school or educational establishment, just an organisation requesting you get one.
If that's all in order you need to go along to a specific place for the check, not your local koban; we use the main MPD headquarters in Kasumigaseki - I don't know if every application has to go here or there are regional offices, best ask the police. They will scan your fingerprints and after a couple of weeks or so they will produce the report in a sealed envelope addressed to the organistation that requested it (so not addressed to you). |

No luck. Hong Kong Board of Ed provides no form or letter so the cops here can do nothing, I have to call up MOFA in Tokyo.
What a pain. |

Are you sure that you need to submit a request form?
I went and asked for one because I was planning on applying for teacher training back home and knew I would need one. It was no problem at all. |

I think that is the only way to get one - if it is for one's native country - without a form or letter. If so, I may try that next week.
Although I have no reason, so then I would have to make up one. |
