I've come accross a few of these. They're often supportive but don't seem to do much really. Sometimes they assist with giving students a rest and making them more comfortable. I've seen dark ones employed and white ones. Some are a bit on the soft side though....hold on, nevermind, I thought it read 'Library Couch'... |

I suspect a library coach focuses on literacy (i.e., improving learners' reading comprehension and writing skills). |

The job can entail many things. During my MA studies, I spent a semester working in the Writing Resources Lab and in the library as a "coach". It wasn't called a library coach, but after reading about what some schools expect of their library coaches, that phase of my assistantship was being a library coach.
One of the things I did was to teach the students how to find materials for research on the school's computer system. (I spent as little time as possible on a godawful explanation of the Dewey Decimal System). I also taught them how to use their materials in their papers. Depending upon the student's major, I'd coach the student to use the applicable writing formats (MLA, APA, Turabian, etc.).I also taught students how to use a book's glossary find the information that they need to include it in their papers.
There was more to it, but I think that's the idea.
A little research into library coach jobs offered by other schools revealed that some library coaches interface with the librarian and teachers:

See a lot of ads for this job around.
What does the job entail exactly? |
How was the position described in ads you've seen and was this for university or teaching children? |

That is an interesting point that Bud makes. "Coaching' of all types has become quite popular, especially in the online world. For those looking to make extra income, or for digital nomad wannabees that usually need to think multiple income sources to be successful, it is a viable option. |
