If you work part-time at a university through an outside contracting organization, what type of visa do you have?

What other jobs do you work apart from university teaching on that visa?

Thanks

You should contact the dispatch company and ask them. It ***may*** be a Specialist in Humanities, or it ***may*** be a Professor (I think the latter is more common, though. I'm pretty sure that's what Westgate gets you, for example).

If you have the latter, then you cannot do anything other than teach at a university or college... unless you have permission (which is probably not hard to get. You need to go to Immigration and ask).

If you have the former, then you can also work at an eikaiwa or in translation or copywriting etc (the Humanities is kind of a catch-all for anything that doesn't fit ***any*** other visa category).

That's assuming that you can get a visa. I guess it depends on what "part-time" means. I think most people who teach part-time at universities are either PR holders or married (spousal visa), or working at several universities part-time and are "Self-Sponsored" for their professor visa. It's much more common to work directly for the university and not though a dispatch agency.

So you should:

1. Contact the dispatch and ask them what kind of visa the position entails.

2. Contact Immigration (there are English speaking offices you can call if you google search) and ask them what can be done on that visa and what is required to do anything outside of that visa but in the same general area (all English language teaching, for example).
