Teaching classes, managing teachers, and curriculum design was par for the course for the chain I worked management for. It's not unusual for the big players in China. |
Oooh, we have a BIG PLAYER here. Yawn. |
I read "big player" as a reference to one of the larger chains and not to the poster himself. |

That's how I read it. |

In retrospect I can see how it might seem as if I were being boastful. However, given the nuts and bolts of management in China, I promise the job has more in common with being a baby's diaper than it does being a "player". |

Haha, I read between the lines and also concluded with this on that previous post, which is why I initially took it that you weren't being boastful.

Any man that can boast whilst getting #@#@ on daily by their boss and @#$# on by the foreign teachers and @#$# on by the Chinese staff and @#$#@ on by the parents and !@#$ on by the students is the hero we all need.
The only thing worst than being middle management in China is being middle management and thinking you are actually doing something useful. You exist solely for providing a layer between the filthy teachers and the owners who don't want to deal with the teachers directly.
No sane Chinese Manager wants to put up with the constant kvetching and complaining of the foreigners either.
Enter left, TOKEN LAOWAI, this poor hapless sod will be the buffer between the two. They'll dress it up with a few extras like curriculum design, entrance testing, recruitment, and what not. They'll give TOKEN LAOWAI a few classes to make sure they aren't losing money on him but not so many that he can substitute for a teacher that gets found passed out on the barroom floor at 7.30 in the morning (sighs.. this actually happened).
If you can boast about that, Amen brother, you are the hero we deserve. |
