Hi i have been offered a 3 month contract with Westgate Corporation teaching at a uni. Signed contract and have 3 days to pay for flight from time of writing, tho contract start 30 April. Can anyone give me some tips for working with them or just japan in general - never been before. Already signed contract and still in UK.

I worked for Westgate on 10-week university contract. They were very professional and took care of everything. You may have a long commute, or you may get lucky. You should live in the same building as the other teachers, which is nice.

In May, it will be Cool Biz, which means you won't have to wear a jacket and tie, so no need to bring a lot of suits. Bring clothes that dry quick because it's humid and you might not have a clothes dryer in your apartment.

You will in a Leo Palace apartment, which isn't too bad.

They are a little nervous about you arriving and leaving on time with your visa, so don't try to come earlier than they tell you. Also, they want you to leave by the end of August, so make sure you leave Japan at that time if you decide to travel Asia after.

The downside of Westgate is the amount they take out of your check, about 75,000 yen. This is about 20,000-30,000 more than I pay for the same apartment and utilities. It may include taxes and other fees.

Unfortunately they wrote back saying that due to business circumstances they had to cancel contract. No explanation why.

Sorry to hear that. Perhaps you could go over with one of the big schools like Aeon, Nova, ECC, Berlitz or Gaba. All are something of a mixed bag but they will get you over there with a work visa.
