Is Ecuador a viable alternative to Colombia in this moment? I'm having visa issues in Colombia and I might have to leave. Should I consider Peru or Brazil instead?

I think Ecuador might be a good shout. Some good parties in Quito and sounds like quite a nice expat community. Teaching opportunities are better than in most other cities in the region, I would say.. The other cities that spring to mind are Rio and Sao Paulo. Quite dynamic places to live..

Yea, I think Quito would be the best bet... the climate seems rather agreeable based on what I read, and I could even volunteer for a while in the right situation until I learn how the work siruation goes there.

HLJ, do you still post here? I'd like to know your thoughrs. I'll PM you just to be sure.

I liked Bogota a lot more than Quito. Even Lima is better IMO. Also, for secondary cities (any large city that is not the capital), Medellin> Guayaquil, easily.

Yes, I am currently giving Lima some serious thought. You get 180 days as a tourist without paying extra. Sounds like I could figure out sonething there while I wait to get back in Colombia.8

Bogota is really low on my list.. wouldn’t live there long term. If better than Quito it would be interesting to know why!

I'm in Bucaramanga. I absolutely love the size of the city, the food, the weather, and the people. I and many others will be sad if I end up having to leave...

Lima would definitely be interesting for a while though.
