There is no standard or norm. It depends on the sponsor/employer, which is why you noticed inconsistencies with some job postings.
Generally, the stronger the qualifications (e.g., a related MA + relevant experience), the better the employer and working conditions, including teaching hours. However, job seekers with unrelated degrees and/or minimal experience are pretty much limited to working for for-profit contracting companies that try to get the most out of their workers for the reason I gave in my initial post.
Again, do your homework when choosing whether to accept a job offer. |

| If the 6 is five days a week(30 hours), it is too high. Many books on EFL-such as David Riddell's-state that 25 teaching hours per week is a standard maximum. |

| Optimum is 4 hours a day class contact. More than that and you will not be as effective as you are expected to be in a teacher-centred classroom. |

It's too much, the standard is around 20 but 6 hours is becoming the norm. |

| Plus 40 hours including office hours is the norm. But I've heard of even higher - 45 hours a week ! |

Yes, it's too high. Focus on weekly contact hours: 20 hours in front of students is what you should do, preferably LESS.
IPA grinds out contract teachers with 22-25 contact hours while direct hires get less than 20. A whole bunch of contract teachers were dismissed 4 months ago. |

| 20 hours (which is actually 20 x 40 minutes) is generally the accepted number by employers and employees, but FEWER would be nice. I've done up to 8 teaching hours per day in Saudi and it's physically, mentally, and emotionally draining. Even 6 hours can take it out of you after a couple of months here. |

I taught 20 hours per week but had days that would be 6 or 7 classes which caused me to be hoarse every week.
Yes, I let the students do the majority of taking and still ended up hoarse especially in the extremely large rooms. |
