Still hoping that perhaps somebody who actually read my OP and posseses a less fatalist and more realist (as in really real) outlook will stumble by. |
No one is arguing with you. We're just giving you the 4-1-1. Straight up, keepin' it real.
That said, your best bet is to Google the following: non native teach English [target country], for recent blogs and general expat forum discussions specific to your situation. (I say "recent" because immigration and/or labor laws can and do change. TEFL trends have changed as well.) And yes, you'll still come across some of the same comments that were mentioned here. |

If you're interested in Vietnam, your best option is to search for schools' websites and teaching job ads online. Contact the schools and see what kind of response you get. Ask questions but don't believe everything you hear.
In addition, network on popular social media sites. Basically, you want to make contacts so if you decide to come, you have a list of potential employers.
Upon arrival there is plenty of low budget accommodation and food. Viportedsit your most promising contacts and continue to network. The big summer hiring season is coming up.
In the meantime, let us know if you have specific questions. That will help folks give you the advice you need.
P.S. Comments regarding "teaching illegally" and "getting deported" although well intentioned perhaps are a bit laughable with regard to Vietnam (unless you have an actual full-time one-year contract). Just keep your visa valid and you'll be fine.

You might specify that's currently relevant to VN. Risk of deportation isn't "laughable" in other Asian countries the OP may be contemplating. |
