Are most Saudi-based EFL teachers still getting annual increases or are salary reductions or freezes the new norm? The economy continues to be in very poor shape-except for the recent boost in oil prices.

Well some places have frozen annual raises. Other places still give raises but employees have to pay dependent fees every month. Also there is now a 5% VAT or sales tax. In addition water, fuel , and other things have gone up in price. Also a lot of the job adds on Dave’s don’t seem as lucrative as before.

With that said I still find it financially better than most western countries. If one limits eating out , trips to Bahrain/Dubai and don’t go to crazy in summer vacation I still think you can save a large amount of money.
