Hello everyone, I’ve been offered an ESL job in Saudi. However the hours are 3pm-9pm. Has anyone worked such hours and how did they find it.
The job is in the Jazan region. This is the first time I’ve come across such working hours especially in Saudi, usually it’s early starts. |

Those hours are likely for teachers whose students are working adults. |

My ideal hours. By 3 pm, the "manager" will have long since "checked out" to take a family member to the "hospital" or something or other, and everyone else will be so zonked out they won't even see you come in. You'll be able to get away with "murder", so to speak. You'll see what I mean when you get there. A couple of cautions though....
1- there's no guarantee that those will actually be your work hours. Or they may change 2 weeks into the semester....something like that. Be prepared for this type of thing. Happens all the time.
2- I hope you didn't mean that you would TEACH from 3-9...that would be 6 CONTACT HOURS per day.....a horrific schedule.
and
3- If you are on the 3-9 schedule, refuse (as much as you can) to be placed on a SUBSTITUTE LIST for the early shift. You don't' want to be told to show up for a missing 7 am teacher and then have to stay on till 3 to do your regular shift.....you'll burn out in a month. (You'll be "shocked" at the amount of illnesses that afflict especially early shift teachers. It's endemic to the profession.)
.

It’s at the university of Jazan/Jizan for the preparatory year program. I don’t think they have morning classes for this department.
Has anyone here taught at the said uni or in Jazan itself.
What’s it like out there, seems pretty remote and not far from the Yemen boarder.
Also what is the competency level of the students in general on these preparatory programmes...
Regarding contact hours I’ve been told it’s 4 hours and 2 office hours. Apparently I don’t have to hang around for the office hours, is that true? |

Just be sure about the visa. If you are a direct hire then enjoy your job and don’t worry about anything. Recruiters say they will arrange visa but they don’t. They actually bring you on visit and just toss you back and forth so they renew that visa. I also heard now they are bribing you on business visa. I heard it’s just and another scam. I really don’t know how you can becareful with such thing. Good luck. |

Did you try KAU? The HR department is crazy but unfortunately all their paper work are as it should be. Log on to their web site search for English language institute. It will take months but they’ll get the job done. And take a brown bag for breathing |
