Sorry to have stumbled across this request so many months after the time that you really needed the information (probably).
The clearest and most in-depth treatment of phonics for adults that I've ever seen is in a textbook for native speakers by John Langan called "Groundwork for College Reading with Phonics," now in its 5th edition and published by Townsend Press (ISBN 978-1-59194-486-7). You may need to go to their website to find it, as it's very scarce on sites like Amazon, for some reason. Make sure you don't get the alternate version of the text called "Groundwork for College Reading" without the words "with Phonics" in the title, because it will be missing the four chapters that you need. It gets very detailed and technical at times, so I wouldn't use it with students at a less-than-intermediate level.
The defunct publisher Houghton Mifflin put out a nice 46-page guide to phonics aimed at adults years ago, complete with exercises, but I have no way to send it to you through this forum, nor the series of handouts that I created to adapt it for ESL students. It has no title, so I can't even tell you how to search for it. |
