I’ve been offered an interview for an esl primary years position at an IB PYP in Chongqing for next year. The school is called Bashu Ivy or Chongqing B Academy (http://www.bashuivy.cn). Previously I’ve only lived in Guangzhou and Shenzhen (with a brief experience in Suzhou where I saw Shanghai too); is Chongqing in anyway comparable to those places (I’m guessing that Chongqing is less international with hotter and colder weather perhaps)? The job is in a new district near the airport as well (I’m guessing no subway link possibly). I’m just wondering if anyone has heard of or worked at this school?

Also, does anyone know if this IB school would be called a ‘grinder’ (I think this is a nickname for ‘IB’ schools which mostly have Chinese students and questionable IB/international school credentials)?

Sorry, nothing on the school itself but a little on the city.

I actually think that weather wise CQ is comparable to SH and Suzhou. Didn’t feel any hotter or colder to me. The airport is located right at the end of a metro line and there is little else out that way to be honest. It would take perhaps 45 minutes by metro to get to the centre of the city. However, although the city has a centre in that people have termed this particular area so, in reality there are many places in the city that equally have a city centre feel. In this way, it is a little disjointed. It’s very hilly but I guess has a bit of charm about it
