As a result of the coronavirus, our college may opt to teach students remotely. I teach an intermediate writing class that includes a grammar component (for which I have numerous PPTs) and writing 2 drafts of different rhetorical patterns. The other course is advanced reading with a text focusing on themes and vocabulary/reading skills and a novel for extensive reading to tap higher critical thinking skills.
We do not have iPads or sophisticated software at the college. Many of our students do not own a computer and do not know how to type (essays are handwritten). Of course, they all possess a smart phone.
We are using Canvas instead of Blackboard now. Does anyone have any recommendations for apps or software amenable to teaching the above two classes? I would especially appreciate advice on how to provide feedback on essay drafts. I'm not that tech savvy. Our college is offering several Webinars on various topics but I don't even know which are best for our ESL program and would be user friendly to the students.
Ineffable thanks in advance for any advice.
