What can an average full-time English teacher expect to earn in Poland? All the job postings say that the salary is good, but they never quote a number.

It would depend on where you are. In the major cities, such as Warsaw or Krakow, If your not bringing in 4000ztl +, you are not going to live well. In the sticks, 3000zlts would be just fine. This is without housing provided by the school. Where I taught, the base salary was 3000 zlts and my privates brought in another 1000zlts. I was making more than 75% of the people in that city.

I am in the "sticks", making 2500PLN with housing and that is more than enough. Not filling the bank account for back home, Canada, but more than enough here.

When is the euro going to become the currency of use in Poland? I thought that would happen with Poland entering the EU, no?

Each country that wishes to join the "Eurozone" needs to meet certain financial criteria. I can't remember them off-hand, but if you make a google-search, you're bound to find the info...

There are 15 countries in the old EU (now 25) and of those 15, only 12 have the Euro--UK, Sweden and Denmark opted to not join the Eurozone for the time being. GREECE almost didn't make it because of those financial criteria..

In 1999, when the currencies in the EU were fixed against each other, Greece had not met those criteria. However, by 2001, they had and were able to join at the same time as the other 11 who opted in.

So, let's just say that Poland has a LOT of work ahead.

I got 1500 zl last year and my rent was provided, that was plenty, I was in Katowice. I was gettig more than the locals, not enough to save but enough to have a good time.
