Hey, am in Montevideo Uruguay, just across the water from BA and was wondering what the job situation is over there? Need a backup plan in case things dont work out here. Are there lots of jobs there? I d prefer to stay here as the city is beautiful but who knows. Thanks for any help. Take care.

super,

Unfortunately, there are not many teaching jobs in BA. There are many excellent Argentine teachers there, and the schools can save money by hiring them. If you'd like to try BA out (on the teaching front) I would try teaching privately. I did so for a few months and enjoyed the experience. The city is amazing (more so, IMO, than Montevideo), so you might want to check it out.

P.S. I am not saying schools here categorically refuse to hire native speakers in BA--they will at times--but you will not be making much, and getting full-time work is rare.
