I'm wondering if anybody has any experiece in taking children to Poland? I have a 3 year old and I am worried how she will adjust to such different surroundings. Anybody with any info on kids in Poland or any other Eastern European country would be really helpful!

Kids survive their parents.

Expect your toddler to learn the language faster and adapt easier than you do. Make friends easier, also.

Of course, finding an English speaking doctor might be tricky outside the bigger cities.

I learned German as a kid overseas. Best thing Mom ever did for me.

Can you give us a bit more info? Are you just going there for a vacation or to live. Where will you be going? Then some of us might be able to better answer your questions.

Hey, thanks for your replies! Both myself and my husband want to teach in Poland and we are planning on leaving early next year. Our daughter is 3 and although she is really friendly and outgoing, it's kind of a scary concept sending her to the local school. Will she have problems with the language, will the other kids like her? If anyone has any advice on sending young children to school, or just how their young children have adapted it would be great!

Hello:

Well, kids are more resilient than you may think. As long as they know that you love them, they can adapt pretty well. From my experience, you child will be treated as something of a celebrity for a while anyway. The other caller was right in that they will pick up the language faster than you do. The grammar is bloody near impossible to penetrate but the good news is you can mechanically substitute the words from a Polish sentence to English (usually anyway) so once you get the verb conjugations down, it is just a matter of vocab and listening. Took me a year to get to the intermediate level but I did not try that hard either. Obviously, the personality of the child has something to do with it but if he/she is outgoing, it should not be a problem. I would not worry about it too much. That fact should not hold you back. At that age, they just do what most pre-schoolers do so she should be ok.

Good luck!!!
