Are there any good international societies for EFL teachers. You know, with newsletters and advisors and conferences and annual membership fees and ID cards and whatnot?

Just curious because I haven't stumbled across any or seen any mentioned in here.

Rob.

Thanks for the info. Shame about the lack of Good, but I'll take a look anyway.

Cheers,
Rob.

I do not know about the one in the Uk..so I will defer to Scot on that one.The one in the US..based in Alexandria,Virginia...mostly, they just want your money.I have found their Job Bulletin to be useful sometimes...but that is about the only thing I have found useful.I have been to a couple of their conventions, too.Expensive,a waste of money...and well...not really worth the time and expense,in my opinion. One of the crying needs in this "profession" is a GOOD organization...but the prospects for one do not look hopeful.

the one in the UK is not much better. Expensive. I think the Internet and the web have made these membership organisations obsolete. In the old days I used to get information in the post (what we now call snail mail). It was in the form of Newsletters and periodicals. Now it is all on the web and a lot of it is free.

So why join a membership organisation like IATEFL or TESOL ?
