I have some specific questions about finding a job in Santiago and would appreciate some advice. 1. Are there many jobs teaching adults? 2. Are North American English speakers preferred? 3. Should I get my CV translated? 4. Can you get a job going door to door? I'm arriving in March but only staying about two months. I'm from NZ, will have a work permit, have a BA in Psyc, Trinity Cert TESOL and two years experience (including time in China).

I mentioned a lot of things you asked about in another post. You sound like a good candidate so you'll find something but whether it's enough is tough to say - but you should have luck.

1) There's lots of work teaching adults but there's lots of competition.
2) North Americans are preferred but not to the exclusion of others; it
shouldn' t matter much.
3) No need to get your CV translated because...
4) ...the best method if you arrive here without a contract is going door-
to-door.

By the way, how did you get a work permit without a job lined up? Most people don't have one here otherwise.

Thanks for your reply, I read your other post and it was really useful. About the visas - because NZ has a trade partnership with Chile, NZers from 18 - 30 years old can get a working holiday visa for 90 days. You enter as a tourist (which NZers don't need a visa for either) and get the work permit from a visa office once you're in Chile. I think it's US$37. You can only use this visa once though, after that you need to get a different one if you want to stay and work longer.

Regarding the Working Holiday Visa... NZers can get one valid for a year if they apply to the embassy in Wellington.

You probably already know that.

Am I right in saying its not worthwhile expecting someone to employ you before you actually arrive in Santiago? And given that will it be quite easy for me to get enough hours to keep me going until I get more established. I have already blown my savings on my September Chile holiday.
