|
|
hey guys,
i'll be a student at Moscow State University for all of next year and possible longer. I am only 18 and I was wondering if there would be any way for me to be able to TEFL in Moscow on my spare time (possibly nights and weekends) while going to school.
I have noticed on my TEFL job openings that you must be atleat 20 to teach. Is there anyway to get around this?
thanks

I don't see any minimum age on the last ad from BKC at least.
I think your problem is that although the big schools do hire off-contract (i.e. part time) teachers, they are going to want someone with both a CELTA and experience for such a position. I would guess you have neither.
You best bet is probably finding informal work through contacts at school; it would likely pay better anyway. |

They will take anybody at BKC. They have teachers leaving left, right and centre. Perhaps they will be desperate enough to overlook your age? So, why not give them a bell? |

Dear Katuysha,
Nice name, btw. I do not know about China where you’re supposed to be from. But as for Russia instead of being lost in conjectures you’d better get needed info on the site of the school where it’s unconcealed. So you don’t have to be a part of BKC (or the friend of a friend of a friend …) to get this info if you really need it. I guess you had a different reason to join this forum recently. Just a piece of advice: to avoid any rumours or mere suppositions please check web sites first and pay attention. There is a FAQ section:
1. Do I need to be qualified to teach EFL?
A) Yes. You must have one of the internationally recognized TEFL qualifications; http://www.bkc.ru/eng/teaching/faq.html#1
B) See there EFL Teacher’s Requirements http://www.bkc.ru/eng/jobs/index.html
Applicants must have one of the following qualifications:
• Cambridge CELTA
• Trinity TESOL
• MA in TESOL
Applicants can take a Cambridge CELTA course in BKC Teacher Training Center.
Preference is given to native speakers of English and teachers with experience in TEFL.
2. Do I need to be a certain age?
[/size] http://www.bkc.ru/eng/teaching/faq.html#8
If you are between 21 and 50 years old, then you will have preference over those who are younger or older than that. We may consider applications from older teachers depending on their capabilities and experience.
3. Can I teach a language if I am not a native speaker? http://www.bkc.ru/eng/teaching/faq.html#6
A) Yes, if you have an internationally recognized certificate in foreign language teaching and your spoken and written language is at proficiency level.
B) Then check this http://www.bkc.ru/eng/teachers and this http://www.bkc.ru/eng/teachers/list.html to see Russian surnames.
Katuysha, I would love to help you with your internet info searching skills! You have such a nice name and as peaceful as Russian WWII Rocket, btw.

Thank you, Castro, for the links. You must be on BKC's payroll! Unfortunately, it is true that people are leaving BKC en-masse and they are leaving with very bad taste in their mouths. Mind you, from what I hear, it is quite normal for BKC. |
