I'm heading off to London in April to visit my sister and thought I'd take the oppurtunity while in the capital of the English speaking world to pick up a few supplies for my school here in Japan. I would imagine in London there are bookshops that would specifically cater to our line of work and was wondering if anyone here has some recommendations as to where to go. I don't have a particular wish-list but I'd like to pick up some kid friendly games as well as some flash cards, song CDs and maybe some videos. I'll be based in Brixton if that has any bearing on anything. Thanks for your time guys.

Can't help with London, but there is a specialised shop in Bournemouth that does mail order. BEBC issue a 'Critical Guide to ELT Materials" and 2005 is just out. See also www.bebc.co.uk

Nice beach at Bournemouth too!

Hi Dave,

For standard EFL Matrials coursebooks etc.
Waterstones, Foyles, Blackwells, Dillons, all on Charing Cross Road.
Waterstones also have a new big shop on Piccadilly, near the circus.
Keltic have a shop further along on Piccadilly at International House's school, I have not been there so can't confirm if it still is.
For more pedagogical materials and ideas you might like to visit CILT
at http://www.cilt.org.uk/qualifications/cef.htm
located at Bedfordbury just up from Charing Cross stn.

apart from the big names already mentioned there used to be a small specialised EFL and foreign language bookshop in Judd Street (opposite the British library on Euston Road. It was called LCL International Booksellers and had the largest selection of Language books of any bookshop in the UK. I can't guarantee that it is still there tho'.
