I have a question and would like an honest answer.

What is the chance of a mid to late 50 yr old couple teaching english in France (or anywhere in Europe for that matter)?? Never before taught english, but one has an MA. Also one has an EU passport.

Honest replies appreciated,

Thanks

One can teach in France until age 65, so that shouldn't be a problem. It may be difficult to find two teaching jobs, however. Of course, the one with the EU passport will have a much easier time of it, but the other must seek work at government schools, where they will do the application of a work visa, private schools are unlikely to do it. Good luck!

Dear Shirley
thank you for your reply.

Do you know of the best areas of France to work in, maybe the best schools which hire sensible and mature people??

Any advice or info appreciated,

Thanks,

Matthew

Matthew, you are certainly welcome. I don't think one area of France is necessarily better than another. Most suburbs and smaller towns are often overlooked. You don't say if the MA has an EU passport or if the other does. It's best if the non-EU is the MA since universities require the MA but not EU citizenship and private schools require the EU passport but not an MA. Check out the NAFSA website at nafsa.org you'll be pleased to see a job open there. Also, write directly to the universities and ask about positions for the coming academic year.
Glad to help.
Shirley
