Hello...!

I've been lurking for a while, but now seems like a decent time to post an introduction and my own initial batch of questions. I apologize in advance if these are stale and often addressed issues.

So now that I've graduated with a B.A. in Asian Studies and Communications, I'm heading back to the lovely island of my birth. My primary aim is to work as little as I can and use my time to improve my Chinese reading skills, while applying to graduate programs in the States. I'm also dragging along my [white] boyfriend, who's been hankering for a dose of overseas living and adventure for yeeears.

I've caught some of the discussions in these forums about how companies discriminate against Asians. When my boyfriend and I went to Taiwan for spring break (back in March), I witnessed some of that firsthand. We did some preliminary job searching, basically walking into offices and handing people our resumes and testing their response. Needless to say, most people treated me like his escort and paid more attention to him, but then I learned that all I had to do was speak up and show that I speak English just as well, and that I am also fluent in Mandarin. So, I'm not too concerned about finding work.

Global Village offered us both jobs while we were there, but we didn't accept and we haven't been in touch. It was more for our benefit, to see how easy it would be to walk in and be hired on the spot. The pay was crummy -- from the sounds of these forums, I would expect more than 500NT/hr.

So with these introductory details, I'd like to ask some questions/hellllp ...

1) Some of you (Okami, I think?) mentioned that bilingual teachers can make wads of NT, and that some companies expressly ask for such qualifications. May I ask about specific companies? Is there a better way to find students other than posting signs up at recreational centers and campus shops?

2) My boyfriend (a Religion and English major) and I have strong researching and editing skills. An editing or a publishing job would be more desirable than teaching English. Unfortunately, my Chinese literacy sucks (and his is non-existent), so I can't translate written texts, but we can definitely edit and make things sound good. I haven't had much luck getting leads on these kind of jobs. Does anybody here know where/how to look?

3) You suppose anyone would want to hire a female DJ who owns way too much music, especially indie and non-mainstream music, for her own good? I've got 1500 CDs and records, about 2/3rds of which I'm carting over in bulky books. Why the trouble? Because I can't bear to be without my music, and because I'm hoping it'd be possible to pick up some DJ-ing gigs on the side, like I hear Xiao Bao of Ladybug does. Are there people who would want to hear the latest American releases that are NOT what you hear on mainstream radio?
