Dear Veiled Sentiments,
Are you considering coming to Oman and teaching at the University of Oman? What Nyai has written is very accurate! What this person forgot to mention is that one of these "advisory committees" supposedly have the power to hire and fire existing teachers! AND I thought that the New Program Director and the "Director" (who hired us in the first place) in Muscat, had that power? All that this is accomplishing is to cause hard feelings, apathy, anger and alienating the staff. For the most part, the staff is working together as a team, supporting each other MORE than the New Program Director has ever done! But patience is growing thin and stress is skyrocketing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm out of here!!! |

.. oops Susan, looks like you hit the new thread button instead of 'reply' Oh well.
No, even if I were in the market for a job, places like the University of Nizwa wouldn't be on the list of someone with an MA and 15 years of experience in the Middle East. I'm retired now, but did two stints for a total of 6 years in Oman through the years.

Suzanne,
Do you really think that a group of teachers, all in their first year at an institution, could form a committee which would then be given the power to hire and fire?? That is simply ridiculous anywhere - it seems that hysteria has gotten the better of your judgement -

There seems to be a misunderstanding. The New Program Director is the ONE that made these committees and has given the power to the Advisory Committee to hire/fire teachers. NOT ME! I think that it is ABSOLUTELY rediculous MYSELF! It has caused MAJOR problems!!! These "responsibilities" should be done by the Program Director HIMSELF!!!!! |
