HELLO, I AM 22 AND WILL GRADUATE IN THE SUMMER AND AM LOOKING AT TEACHING IN ITALY I HAVE NOTICED FROM THIS SITE THAT 1000EUROS IS THE NORM BUT I HAVE ALSO NOTICED THAT MOST CONTRACTS ARE FOR 9 MONTHS SO WHAT DO TEACHERS DO IN THE SUMMER? PLEASE REPLY SOON, LOOK FOWARD TO HEARING FROM YOU SOON.

You either go on holiday / stay at home / go and work in a summer school somewhere.

The times you are unlikely to be working in Italy are mid July - mid September (though you need to be around from the beginning of September to visit schools, attend interviews etc); a week or so around Easter and third week of December to around January 8.

End of July, all of AUGUST, last 2 weeks in DECEMBER, 1st week in January all DEAD in terms of teaching...On your time off try to get certified with any ESL teacher training program it helps a lot when competing with all the other millions of teachers wanting to teach in ITALY!

It's a question of making hay while the sun shines, i.e. a lot of people get private lessons on top of their working schedule so that the dead periods mentioned by Mark and Teacher in Rome are made up for.
You know in advance that there will be dead periods so plan ahead
