Anyone know what it's like to live there? Am thinking of teaching at a language centre there.

Hello Polina,

Wow I lived in Townsville for three years. I dont really know what to say. I definitely would not move back there. It is extremely hot and more of a big country town.
Many Army personal there and students also many cowboys and redneck type. It is a real blokes town. You know fishing, hunting, drinking and not much else.
I have also lived in Cairns and it is more of an international city there with a large Japanese population. You might enjoy Cairns as for Townsville. I dont think so.

Do you know which place has more non-customer-service jobs? Or just jobs?

I was born in Townsville and lived there for time during the 90's.
It is not a blokes town....there are many nice people and it makes for a great location to move up or down the coast for those times you need to get away from work.
If you want to live in a tourist city....fine Cairns is the place to be.
If you want to see the real Australia....the one with all the B/S taken away...go with Townsville.
Yes is hot and humid during the summer....the winters are cool and dry.
It is a very laid back place and things are nice and peaceful.
It does have a large Military population and student population but they are not that bad.
It has all of the modern things you have in other big cities and of coarse the problems that you get in any part of Australia as well... As I said it will give you a taste of the real Australia....and it is a good place to go.
If you have any other questions about Townsville PM them to me.
