Would you say it is dangerous and impulsive to take off to CR planning to stay in a hostel until more permanent "headquarters" and a job can be found? I have a TESOL certificate and was planning to just go from school to school to find employment. Is late August a good time to go? Thank you so much, Katya. |

Impulsive? Perhaps. Dangerous? No...unless you are totally broke and counting on earning lots of cash in CR, in which case you are nuts. For the price of staying at a hostel you might want to do a Spanish course or homestay (or both) for a month to get settled, especially if your Spanish isn't stellar. But a hostel works too...I think $10 a night in San Jose is standard, a bit pricier than most of Latin America. August is no better or worse than anytime....teachers come and go throughout the year. The weather kinda sucks then, but you'll only have a couple months of the rainy season left at that point....
good luck!
