I've been offered a full time position by Inlingua in a small city in northern France and a salary of 1500 Euro/month. Will this be enough to live on, and perhaps do some travelling in the EU?

I believe you should be fine. You should be able to find at least a studio apartment that is around 500 euros a month...even on the outskirts of Paris you can find this. I have a friend near Paris that earns that much and lives very well. |

Is that pre-tax or after?
I cannot imagine inlingua paying that sum, somehow. |

Your info is several years out of date.
A cheap and small flat in Rouen (for example) will cost a minimum of 1500€uros per month + running costs+tax d'habitation
Inligua simply don't pay enough to live and eat - you have to make a choice between the two. |

I hope the 1500 euros is a net salary. However, I do not agree with Rogan's assessment of the rental situation here. I just found a nice, albeit small, studio in the 6ime arrondisement (centre of Paris) for 580 euros per month. You may have to search quite a bit, but you can find something reasonable. Agencies are a good idea if you are willing to pay the two months caution. |

I was offered a gross salary of 1500 Euros per month at Inlingua in northern France. After taxes, it goes down by nearly one third, but anyways, finding a good studio apartment for 335 Euros/month wasn't difficult, as well as making ends meet on this salary. I feel sorry for most of my colleagues though, as most of them work by the hour. It makes me feel like I might have lucked in by not getting paid by the hour, as I would not want to go through all the hoops and ladders that they have to go through over hours worked and making sure that they get paid for all of them. |

I was in Paris a while ago.1500 Euros/month gross is an insult.1000 Euros net and a flat that will cost you 600 of them.Don't work in any European capital for that, you'd be better off in Pizza Hut.You will be broke. |

When I see the horrific figures here I am really grateful that I work in Saudi where I get a living wage. |

I've been in Vietnam for about a year now and am considering making a stab at Western Europe for a year. The south of France appeals to me. Any hope?
I made a mistake and got the TEFL, but have since picked up an IELTS Testing Cert. |

Micro,
Take a look at all the discussions about nationality in the European sections.
If you are UK or Irish you have a good chance of finding employment in P.A.C.A.
If you are US or Canadian you will have severe difficulties. |

Micro67,
What's wrong with the TEFL Cert? And what is the IELTS Testing Cert? |

Nothing is wrong with it, but I think - in retrospect - that my options would have been more open with the CERTA. It is just more respected. The IELTS Testing Certification makes you qualified to administer the IELTS exam, which is what a number of students have to take to get into Western universities. Check the British Council in your area for more info on this and some other qualifications you can pick up. |
