|
|
Hi
Just want to learn this:
After I sign the contract and start working, can the employer terminate it for any reason (apart from my wrondoings) without giving me any prior notice?
If they do, what are my rights (if any)?
Hope u can help.
Thanks |

zip.
the employer can have your visa cancelled anytime.
any reason is accepted.
you have no rights at all.
sure there are laws, but a foreigner is tasty meat
try fighting a legal issue here.
the cost of defence ie bribes is not worth it. |

ok - Well it should be written in your contract regarding notice. There will certainly be details of the notice YOU must give (and the money to be repaid) and I assume the notice period will be the same from the school. Unless the school doesn't have students or a war breaks out I can't see why a school would want to lose a foreign teacher - Indonesia is not the easiest country to recruit for & it is a very inconvenient process for the schools to deal with staff rotation - though EF must be very good at this due to years of practice |

Ok, thanx guys!
The thing is I have worked with this employer for one year without any problems at all. At the end of my contract they asked me to stay one more year and we have signed another one year contract. Now, I have been working for almost two months under this new contract and my KITAS is not ready yet!! In the meantime, I found out that they are looking for another 'bule' who would be cheaper to replace me because I am expensive for them.
So, I am not fired (yet!) but I got a bit suspicious and wanted to know if
there is a possibility that they can kick me out just like that.
PS; Hey TEAM_PAPUA, any more mistakes, let me know |

Dont panic.
they have done you a favour.
while you are here you can get a better job.
have some sick days and go for some interviews at international schools.
even if they are not recruiting now, in a few months, wherever you are, they can contact you if they have a vacancy.
also jobs are plentiful in jakarta, because it is not a safe place to live and its a toilet.
lucky for us, aye?
but seriously, dont be honest with your boss.
Indonesian management style is lies, cheating and deceit
that is admired.
look after yourself. |

Well, actually I am not panicking but I feel a bit sort of 'betrayed' and confused as this was something unexpected for me. As i said, nothing is certain yet but this tells me that I can not trust my employer because if not now, who knows maybe next time. On the other hand u r right; they r doing a favour to me.....they r giving me the time to adjust myself to the possibility of this 'new situation'.
So Chester, r u saying that the recruitment time for international schools will be in September? Do u know any schools teaching business/management related subjects as well as english? Or how/where can I find these schools?
And thnx for ur replies |

Actually, I have MBA so I 'do' adults too and mostly I 'do' business/management subjects. To be honest I do not really care whether it is int'l school or not as long as they are organised enough and pay good.
Well, anyway, thanx for ur posts. Let's see what will happen soon. I will let u know
Take care. |
