Saudi to Bahrain would roughly take you about 45+- minutes (100kmph), depends on how long you take on the customs....
Basically, you have two lanes for each way with a divider between cars going to and going fro (going back to saudi , going to Bahrain) so there isn't really a problem with regards to traffic accidents as those cars on your available lanes are going on the same direction. Mostly, the accidents happen with big trucks though I've seen crazy people in cars drive at 150kmph++ might heighten the chances for accidents.
Actually, what I heard of at first was a bridge from Qatar to Bahrain as I think this route is shorter than the planned Qatar-UAE.
In Saudi-Bahrain, you pay 20SR (20QR) everytime you use the bridge. a lot of expats working in Saudi actually live in Bahrain and commute everyday.
There is no doubt that they can do it if they agree on the costing and all. And how fast they actually want to do this as this may also affect businesses here in Qatar (cheaper items in Dubai).
