I have a question for you guys/girls......
So, I arrived on June 30th, 2005 in Brazil. My 90 days ends this Friday.
I am going to renew my VISA tomorrow for another 90 days.
As we all know: 180 days maximum per VISA per year. I have a return flight for December 6th to the States
that can be extended for another 6 months. I was planning on extending my flight, doing a trip to Buenos Aires
at the end of December to vacation and get a new VISA, but... because of a bit of work back in the U.S.,
I am going to stay with my December 6th flight and return home for a month.
For some reason, this didn't strike me before, but I will just fly back to Brazil around the first couple of days in
January on a new VISA from the US-Brazilian consulate. There should be no snag here because the rule is
180 days "per calendar year" and January 1, 2006 should start the whole cycle over again.
I am posting this solely to check that this is an accurate line of thinking.

Yeah, I wasn't sure how that worked either.
Where are you currently working? |

Well, I'm an English teacher, not a mathematician. I went to renew my
Visa on Thursday (29th) to learn that it was the 91st day; Friday would have been #92...
I mistakenly overstayed my Visa by 1 day and now I have 8 days to leave
the country.....and my Passport has this ugly Overstay stamp.
I will have to go to Paraguay next Friday, then return.

Hmmm....now that I have overstayed, I think I am going to just take my flight home and look for work elsewhere. I have heard that an overstay stamp can cause problems, even for other countries.... Anyone know any consequences to an Overstay stamp, even if for only 1 day?

Nope, this is not true, I got a reply from the Miami consulate today.
It's your individual calendar year, not an actual 2004/2005/2006 calendar year. That means that I could re-enter Brazil - June 30, 2006. My plan would fail if I re-applied in the States in January. |
