hi - my friend and i want to work in turkey in october - we both have degrees from decent universities in our home countries, and have experience teaching. i'm also in the middle of a masters degree in linguistics..... but neither of us wants to get a tefl qualification. is it possible to work in turkey without one? avice appreciated! |

Hi Monkel,
I'm afriad that to work legally in Turkey, the Ministry of Education requires that foreign English teachers have both a degree and a Tefl certificate. The Ministry needs to see your certificates before it will issue the letter you need to get your work visa so unless you want to work illegally, you need to get your tefl. Some schools may offer you work without it but I wouldn't be too keen on working for any schools willing to do that.
Maybe the best idea would be to do you tefl then look for work here. You can do the CELTA at the British Council in Istanbul if you're interested on doing it in Turkey.
