Hi there,
I am a Canadian teacher moving to Hobart in the next year. My husband is a student at the University of Tasmania and so we both have 4 year Visa's. I have perused the teacher registration site as well as the seek job service site.

I am wondering if anyone has any information about the possiblility of employment (others have informed me that receiving a work visa isn't a problem once you are in Australia), which schools are looking for teachers, ESL work...pretty much anything.

Cheers from the great white north!

nikki

I'm not sure how much teaching work there'd be, as there aren't all that many foreigners in Tassie. I'd be interested in finding out myself...

Just looking at www.elicos.com.au, all I can see is the Univerity of Tasmania English Language Centre. Have a look at www.international.utas.edu.au/elc

Several years ago I worked at the English Language Centre at U Tas. It was a good place to work.

Other job opportunities might be found at the Hobart Community College. There was also a small private language school that I can't remember the name of. Google might find it.

This might be a bit late, but...

There's also the Australian Advanced College of English in Liverpool St, and TAFE also run English courses. I can confirm that Elicos at UTAS is a good place to work and you may be able to get some casual work out of it, but it is very seasonal and you can't rely on getting work the whole year round as the student numbers can fluctuate wildly.
