How are the jobs in Taichung? I want to go to Taiwan, to a large city, but not Taipei, what are your opinions of Taichung?

Taichung is great if you want to study Chinese but doesn't pay all that well and it is hard to get a full schedule.
Koasiung is pretty hot this year and not just the temperature. The number of foreign teacher for hire ads has doubled or even tripled this year. If you want a pay check, that is the place.
Taipei is still at the top of the ESL/EFL market for teachers and students and has some very good schools for learning Chinese.
There are numerous positions available in more remote areas but teacher beware.
There are currently two outstanding travel/work advisories on the island. Those being for Chaiyi and Taitung counties and cites.
Good luck.
A.

I haven't lived in North America for a year and a half. I'm in rural china now. Sounds like Taichung, but without the conveniences.

I have only visited Taichung (I lived in a nearby town, Yuanlin, for a year), but I thoroughly enjoyed going there on my rare days off. Had I stayed in Taiwan another year, I would have elected to work in Taichung...great expat community, great restaurants, awesome English bookstore (Caves), etc. Much nicer than where I was living and working. Razz Good luck. Wink

yeah so you're used to it. Picture rural china, stinking rich, ruled by gangsters, with tons of scooters and cars, no bicycles, big flashy buildings, and tea rooms everywhere. That's Taichung.

Let's also not forget TGIFriday's. Wink There were days I would have walked across flaming hot coals to get to Taichung just to sit in TGIFriday's, listen to (good) rock music, and have a veggie-free meal. Laughing
