Hey Guys, i have been tossing up for the past couple of months whether to do my TEFL course and subsequently live and work in either Santigo or Buenos Aires.
In searching through prervious threads on this topic it seems that a great deal of the posts are pretty negative towards Santiago and dont paint it as such a great city to live in. In contrast, BA seems to get mostly positive comments.
Is there anyone living and working in Santiago who really loves it and would recommend it over BA. I have to pay for my ticket and course next week and i'm as confused as ever as to which city to choose. Any comments are greatly appreciated.
Thanks. |

Santiago is a great place to live and work. There is ample opportunity for TEFL teachers to do really well here. The city is relatively safe and offers everything you would expect a major city to offer. You have quick and easy access to both the coast and the mountains, one of Santiago's major attractions in my book.
I've only ever spent a few days in BA and I must admit I loved it, however I'm pretty settled in Santiago now but may well consider a move to Argentina in the future. If I was just starting out I would probably choose Argentina over Chile, but as I say I haven't lived in the latter. |

youre probably going to make more money / have a higher standard of living in santiago.
friends living in buenos aires have had a tough time lining up work that made sense/ paying the bills ..but they were able to work it out.
friends living in santiago have claimed that the opportunities for work are good and there is actually potential for saving.
i live in valparaiso bc its nicer than either (in myopinion) and more interesting overall than santiago (which has a sort of "standardcity" look to it, and buenos aires, which is nice, but gave me more of a "this is a big huge city" feeling rather than something more authentic, which i get here.
whatever you choose will be good as long as you make it so.
good luck
