I've been looking at Bupa and Prudential . As far as I can tell they are
much of a muchness , tho' Bupa is more expensive ( which I think is a
worldwide trend)
Does anyone here belong to either of these two ?
If yes , I'd be grateful if you could tell me your experience ...or anything
else you think I could do with knowing about them.
Many thanks. |

You can always get a much better deal in a group scheme so if you're not in HK yet I'd leave it till you get here and join a scheme with colleagues/friends/acquaintances.
The public health system's fine anyway so it's not a big deal, just saves a bit of queuing at a public clinic really. |

What exactly are you covered for in the public health system Dandan?
What if you had a bad accident, or needed major surgery - e.g. a heart attack or something? Is it enough to have just the public health system? Does it also include visit to GP and prescriptions for example?
and how do you join a group scheme if you're basically working as the sole NET in a school? I'm a new NET coming next month. COMBCHICK |

If you're on the NET scheme you get an allowance for health insurance so you might as well use it for sure to cover you for those things, all I mean is that it's not a disaster if you don't have it the moment you arrive (I didn't have any insurance for the first few years in HK, but that's me). I guess you could organise a group scheme with other NETs when you meet them for the induction (that way you'll get more cover for your buck)but if you're worried about it, just get it before you go. |

i also need some suggestions for Health insurance, I wont be on the NET scheme for 9 months as Ill first be working for Chatteris (if I take the job), and they dont provide anything. I remember tho that the public health system is inexpensive and you can just walk in to the clinics, i wouldnt mind waiting in line, as long as I got help. So as far as that goes, its nice to know I wouldn't need immediate coverage, although I think Chatteris requires its teachers to take health insurance |

Your medical insurance will cover dental if you pay for dental cover.
You pays your money, you takes your choice. |

I was told by the Chatteris Foundation head that minimum coverage is 1400 HKD a year, less than 200 US, thats sooo cheap. About a month ago I was about to buy a min here in the states, but I never did cause I just graduated, and it was complicated bla bla, but it would have been 500 for about 6 months, thats a lot. crrrazy |

I live in Shenzhen, just over the border.
I got worried about being sick in Chinese hospitals, so i looked to HK.
HSBC has a 90 HK dollar a month travel/hospital insurance for permanent /frequent travellers.
In my case I need to cross borders once every 2 months in order to qualify.
In your case you could nip over to Macau for a slurp at the fleshpots over there |
