Has anyone ever taught with the Ministry of Defense?
I have BA in TESOL and five years of international teaching experience including teaching military cadets in Saudi Arabia ( for one year). Here is the deal that I am trying to figure out if it is good enough. I would appreciate any feedback.
1. Salary KD 650 per month
2. 2 bedroom furnished accommodation provided in Abu Khalifa, near Maboula
3. transportation to work provided
4. six weeks of summer vacation
5. teaching hours : sat-wed 7a.m. -- 2p.m
I am aware of the students/cadets that I am supposed to deal with and the work load. I need the feedback on:
1 the accommodation and salary
2.How much money am I going to be able to save per month there?
3. Is having your own car necessary to move around in Kuwait?
4. Can anyone compare Bahraini vs. Kuwaiti hospitality?
5. The cost of living ( for ex. the prices in the restaurants etc.)
Thank you. |

i would expect the same advice as you got in the one below it. Looks like about the same amount of money... except military students are not great students.

I fully expect that you will... it will just be a different version of the same crapola. Pack your patience and think of it as something to put on the CV.
Good Luck!

The normal amount of time to get a work visa in Kuwait is about 4 months. This has been discussed numerous times here.
I would agree with your advice about avoiding employment with this group, but your description fits way too many employers in the Gulf.

Good Luck Pangley, do keep us informed on when you manage to get that illusive visa. Hopefully you will at least get paid on time. How do they pay you since you don't have a bank account?
All you can do is try to make the best of a bad situation.

(BTW, there is no excuse but incompetence to take 4+ months to get a visa. At my last job at a small private college in Oman, I had my visa and labor card within the first month. Not sure how long it is taking in the UAE these days.) |

Qualitas is little more than a joke! Dont even think about letting them take your passport- apart from anything its illegal. There are many better places to work in Kuwait- infact I cant think of any on par or worse than them apart from humansoft (again a joke!). |

You can open a bank account with your passport, and will also be able to get an ATM card. Especially if you bank with the same bank as the company. If you entered the country on a work visa the process must be completed within two months, (it usually is) if you are on a visit visa, you shouldn't be working anyway, and they can't apply for residence until that 3 month visa visa expires, or you leave the country to return on a proper work visa.
Make no mistake about it the Military is in charge when it comes to teaching, hiring and firing. It doesn't matter what the company says. The salaries are very low, only when qualified teachers boycott these low paying companies will they be forced to raise the pay. Or, maybe they will hire all Egyptian teachers. |

|
|
I am a Western Teacher with the Kuwait Ministry Of Defense Language School and am leaving due to the fact that the Military are installing cameras in all the classrooms and getting a Civil ID takes up to a YEAR!!
If you think about coming here BEWARE of being constantly montored by cameras in your classrooms.

Only skimmed through so not noticed your nationality but if teaching Military, you would be a Westerner ? Westerners on arrival at Kuwait Airport are issued a FREE Entry Visit Visa. It should be marked as valid 3 months and renewable for a further 3 months on going to the Immigration Office. [Jawzat] Thus you should not have to go every month to Bahrain when opting to stay working on vist visa.
